Lithuania Purchases 5,000 Drones for Ukraine
The Lithuanian Defence Resources Agency is purchasing almost 5,000 drones from local manufacturers worth €5 million to be transferred to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defence and Delfi.
‘We are purchasing Lithuanian combat drones for the Armed Forces of Lithuania and Ukraine. This autumn, more than 2,300 drones will be delivered to the Lithuanian army and almost 5,000 will be transferred to Ukraine. Contracts have been signed with five Lithuanian drone manufacturers,’ the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Delfi has learned that the Defence Resources Agency has signed contracts with five Lithuanian companies: Dangolakis, RSI Europe, LTMiltech, Granta Autonomy and Unmanned Defence Systems.
The Lithuanian army will receive more than 2,300 FPV drones for €3 million, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive almost 5,000 drones of the same type for €5 million.
The drones for both the Ukrainian and Lithuanian armies are being purchased with all the accessories, equipment and training required for launching and operating them.
‘We want to encourage the production of drones and anti-drones in Lithuania... The tests that took place in Ukraine and the signing of the contracts are a huge impetus and a significant step for our drone manufacturers. This procurement is undoubtedly related to the fundamental interests of national security,’ said Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurynas Kasciunas.
It is planned that the first drones will be delivered to Ukraine at the end of September this year. All drones will be delivered to both the Ukrainian and Lithuanian armed forces by the end of this year.
