Lithuanian Government Allocates €5 Million for Solar Power Plants in Ukraine
The Lithuanian government has allocated €5 million for the installation of solar power plants in Ukraine, following the approval of a state programme to support the country's energy sector.
The equipment for solar power plants must be manufactured in Europe and must be reliable and protected from cyberattacks, Rasa Kairienė, head of the development cooperation department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday.
‘When choosing solar power plants, we must ensure the reliability of the equipment to be installed and the cybersecurity aspects so as not to create additional dependencies for Ukraine. So, during the procurement process, we will try to include this requirement that the equipment should come from the EU or the European economy,’ she told the ministers on Wednesday.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine's energy capacity has more than halved since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Lithuania's total support for Ukraine will reach €1.45 billion by the end of this year, the Foreign Ministry said.
As previously reported, Lithuania will also provide Ukraine with an additional €40-50 million in military aid this year. Lithuania also plans to allocate €10 million for the production of the Palyanytsia unmanned aerial vehicle in Ukraine, as well as for the supply of radars, demining equipment and short-range air defence systems.
