Merz Declares 'Diplomacy Exhausted', Pledges Continued Ukraine Support

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that ‘diplomatic means’ to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war have been exhausted and promised further assistance to Ukraine. He said this during a budget debate in the Bundestag on Wednesday.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Die Zeit.
During the debate, Merz promised further German assistance to Ukraine.
‘We must soberly assess the current threatening situation. We have important decisions to make. We will continue to help Ukraine, even despite resistance from pro-Russian right-wing forces here in this parliament. We will continue this support,’ he assured.
The German chancellor then emphasised that ‘the means and resources of diplomacy have been exhausted.’
"The means and resources of diplomacy have been exhausted when a criminal regime openly questions the right of an entire country to exist, using military force, and seeks to destroy the political order of freedom across the European continent. The federal government, which I head, will do everything in its power to prevent this from happening," Merz stressed.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said in June that Germany would provide Ukraine with additional military aid worth 1.9 billion euros.
Germany is also in ‘intensive negotiations’ with the United States to provide Ukraine with Patriot air defence systems.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Germany and Europe will continue to support Ukraine in order to prevent Russia from completely destroying the peace and security order on the continent and in the world, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in his first government speech to the Bundestag.
