Moldova Accuses Russia of Significant Negative Impact from the UN General Assembly Podium
The Republic of Moldova has accused Russia from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly of continuing to have a significant negative impact on the country, including through hybrid campaigns, election interference, and an aggressive war against neighbouring Ukraine. This was stated by Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popschiu in his speech at the UN Future Summit on Sunday.
‘The aggressive policy of the Russian Federation and its regional consequences create a significant negative effect for the Republic of Moldova, making it a target for hybrid threats such as cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, which are complemented by attempts to disrupt public order and interference in electoral politics,’ the Moldovan diplomat said.
He also stressed that Russian troops continue to be illegally deployed in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, ‘where concerns about human rights violations are of deep concern’.
The Moldovan Foreign Minister recalled the more than two and a half years of full-scale war of aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine. This, he said, is a challenge to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the heart of Europe.
‘We strongly reject any possibility of threats of use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any state,’ the Moldovan Foreign Minister said.
The day before, the Summit of the Future, attended by many heads of state and government, started at the UN headquarters in New York, where the President of Ukraine, who arrived to the United States, is also expected to speak.
