Moldova to Receive €385 Million in Aid from France, Germany, and Romania Under International Support Platform
The international community has pledged new assistance to Moldova, which is at the forefront of the threat of destabilisation from Russia, to support its rapprochement with the European Union.
The day before, at the fifth meeting of the International Support Platform for Moldova, created at the initiative of France, Germany and Romania, it was announced that the country would receive €80 million in grants and €305 million in loans, Le Monde reports.
‘Together with our partners, we have the power to stimulate growth, create opportunities and secure Moldova's European future,’ Moldovan President Maia Sandu wrote on the X network.
According to her, Moldova's accession to the European Union is a kind of Marshall Plan. The future, stability and democratic consolidation of the country depend on it.
‘This support will allow Moldova to complete the integration of its energy systems with European networks, which is an important step towards finally eliminating the possibility of energy blackmail,’ said outgoing French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne.
According to German Foreign Minister Annilena Burbock, Russia's attempts to influence or even sabotage the upcoming elections in Moldova are another reason to continue to help it.
