Moldova's Maia Sandu Takes Oath for Second Presidential Term
Today, 24 December, Maia Sandu begins her second and last presidential term in Moldova. The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Palace of the Republic. This was reported by ZDG and was also broadcast on Sandu's Facebook page.
In her speech after taking the oath, Sandu said that society had managed to maintain peace and protect its democracy despite the crises of recent years and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
She also called for national mobilisation and the continuation of the country's development path.
‘I can tell you with my hand on my heart: I worked with dedication during my first mandate, and I will continue with even greater will and energy. After four years, I can humbly say that together we have done something that has never been done in 30 years of independence,’ Sandu said.
She added that there is still a lot of work to be done, but the road is the right one.
‘I urge you to move forward with confidence. Do not forget what our Moldova stands for - heritage, optimism, struggle, development, organisation, will, ambition,’ Sandu said.
As previously reported by The Gaze, Sandu was re-elected in early November for a second term, defeating her opponent, pro-Russian Socialist candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo.
