One of the world's most famous streaming platforms, Netflix, has joined forces with Studio Production I.G to create a new anime series about the iconic action hero - Terminator.

This was announced on Netflix's official page.

According to the statement, the anime series' story will begin in 2022, where the 'future war' between an endless army of machines and the few surviving humans has been ongoing for decades.

Later, the audience will be transported to the year 1997 - a time when artificial intelligence, better known as Skynet, gains consciousness and starts a war against humanity.

Between the two worlds - the future and the past - travels a female warrior, whose mission is to save humanity from doom.

In 1997, the heroine tries to protect scientist Malcolm Lee from a dangerous killer from the future. The scientist must survive and create an AI system capable of subduing the dangerous Skynet.

The future anime series will be directed by Masashi Kudo, with Mattson Tomlin serving as the showrunner. Tomlin has previously collaborated with Netflix on 'Project Power' and is currently working on 'Batman II.'

"Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I'm honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts," emphasized Tomlin.

The exact release date of the new anime series is currently unknown, but it is likely to be part of a larger series of previously announced animated adaptations from the streaming platform, including Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Skull Island, and the upcoming Tomb Raider series.

The Gaze has earlier reported on how Netflix adapted the classic Japanese anime 'One Piece.' The iconic tale of pirate adventures is considered one of the most famous anime of all time and has over a hundred volumes, with a total circulation exceeding half a billion copies. 'One Piece' is the second best-selling comic in the world, after Superman.

Earlier, The Gaze reported that the world's most expensive copy of the Spider-Man comic was sold for $3.6 million.
