Netherlands to Purchase Drone Detecting Mobile Radars for Ukraine
The Dutch Ministry of Defence has ordered 51 mobile radars for Ukraine to detect drones.
This is reported on the ministry's website.
The contract was signed on 22 August at the Robin Radar Systems plant in The Hague.
The ordered radars are capable of detecting small drones and distinguishing them, for example, from birds, and doing so even at high speeds.
What is unique about the radars is that they do their job when placed on mobile platforms. Since the detection system is mobile, it is harder for the enemy to find the radar and therefore harder to destroy.
This makes it possible to continuously detect enemy drones and then take measures to disable them.
Later this year, the Dutch Ministry of Defence will transfer these systems to Ukraine.
They had previously purchased radars from Robin Radar Systems, but the previous units were static and deployed in different locations.
Feedback from users included a request to be able to deploy them on mobile platforms. Further development of the radar system provided this new functionality.
Robin Radar Systems manufactures a variety of radars for detecting small targets, including drones. All of them provide a 360° azimuthal view and update information at a frequency of about one second.
