Newly Elected Romanian President Backs Ukraine Support, But Plans No Troop Deployment

Romania's newly elected President Nicușor Dan is in favour of continuing to support Ukraine, but denies the possibility of sending a military mission to the military conflict zone.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Politico.
"Firstly, to have a lot of operational support on Romanian territory - yes. To be part of the armies that guarantee peace in Ukraine - no. I think it would not be very appropriate because of the tensions that already exist between Romania and Russia," Dan was quoted as saying.
At the same time, Dan criticises US President Donald Trump's approach to Vladimir Putin's search for a deal, whose "unrealistic demands do not bode well for the prospects of peace".
"Everything that concerns Ukraine should be decided and agreed upon by the Ukrainians themselves," he says. "I am not very optimistic that we will have peace very soon, and I am also glad that the Europeans have decided together to continue to support Ukraine until they get the peace that is most acceptable to them," added Dan.
With 100% of the ballots counted, pro-European Bucharest Mayor Dan has won Romania's presidential election with 53.60% of the vote.
