Pentagon Confirms Russia Notified US of Ballistic Missile Launch at Ukraine
The US Department of Defence has said that Russia has warned it of the launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine. The Pentagon identified the missile as an experimental model based on the old Russian Rubezh missile. This was stated on Thursday during a press briefing by Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of Defence Sabrina Singh, Ukrinform reports.
‘The United States was notified shortly before the launch through the Nuclear Threat Reduction System,’ the Pentagon spokeswoman said.
She also added that Russia launched an ‘experimental intermediate-range ballistic missile’ based on the Russian model of the RS-26 Rubizh intercontinental ballistic missile.
According to her, Russia has used a new type of lethal weapon in the war against Ukraine, which is ‘certainly a cause for concern’.
She recalled that before that, the Russians had escalated the conflict by bringing North Korea's armed forces to the battlefield against Ukrainians.
Earlier, the White House said it had helped Ukraine, as well as other allies and partners, prepare for the launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile by Russia.
On the morning of 21 November, Russians launched a ballistic missile, which was previously believed to be an intercontinental missile, as well as other types of missiles at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. This caused damage to an industrial enterprise and the building of a rehabilitation centre for people with disabilities in the city.
