Sybiha: Ukraine Ready to Purchase or Lease Air Defense Systems

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called for urgent international support to reinforce Ukraine’s air defense, stating the country is prepared to purchase or lease necessary systems in response to an intensified wave of Russian strikes, The Gaze reports.
“In June 2025, Russia launched over 330 missiles, including nearly 80 ballistic missiles, at Ukraine’s peaceful cities and communities, as well as over 5,000 combat drones and 5,000 gliding bombs,” Sybiha posted on X.
The foreign minister stressed that only stronger pressure on Russia and greater support for Ukraine can lead to an end to the war. In particular, he highlighted the urgency of addressing Ukraine’s air defense needs:
“Such a large number of drones, bombs, and missiles, particularly ballistic, proves the urgency of further bolstering Ukraine’s air defense. We need more interceptors and systems. We are also ready to purchase or rent them.”
Sybiha also appealed for increased international investment in Ukraine’s defense production, including local manufacturing of interceptor drones and air defense systems. While Ukraine continues to develop its own capabilities, he said, the current scale of Russian terror requires immediate support from allies.
Additionally, Sybiha warned of the devastating impact on civilians: “Russia’s relentless strikes primarily target civilians, including women and children, as well as schools, hospitals, and residential areas. According to UN data, civilian casualties in Ukraine increased by 37% in the last half year.”
Concluding his statement, Sybiha said this is not the time for weak decisions and urged the international community to demonstrate strength and send the right signals to Moscow.
As The Gaze previously reported, the United States has halted shipments of certain air defense missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to growing concerns about the depletion of its own weapons stockpiles.
