Poland and Slovakia to Expand Ammunition Production

Poland and Slovakia have agreed to expand cooperation in the defence industry, in particular in the production of 155 mm shells, Ukrinform reports.
In Warsaw, the defence ministers of both countries, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh and Robert Kaliniak, signed a letter of intent.
During a joint press conference, Kosiniak-Kamysh said that the agreement covers four areas of cooperation. In particular, Slovakia is interested in purchasing Polish Piorun man-portable air defence systems.
‘The second area concerns joint actions aimed at increasing ammunition production capacity, with a particular focus on 155 mm ammunition,’ the Polish minister said.
According to him, Slovakia has one of the most powerful production capabilities in this area not only in Europe but also in the world.
The third area involves the possibility of joint production of a wheeled armoured personnel carrier based on the Polish Rosomak with a Slovak-made Turra 30 turret.
In addition, Slovakia is interested in the Polish version of the South Korean K2 tank. Kosiniak-Kamysh stressed the need to quickly reach an agreement with the South Korean side on the production of K2PL tanks, which Bratislava is interested in purchasing.
As reported by The Gaze, Poland has previously ordered 232 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles from the United States to equip its fighter jets. The contract is worth about $175 million.
