Poland Sends F-16 Fighter Jets Airborne: Russia Continues Missile Terror on Ukraine
On the night of Monday and Tuesday, another series of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine took place. The Russians attacked, in particular, Kyiv and Kharkiv. On Tuesday morning, an air raid alert was sounded throughout Ukraine.
At around six o'clock in the morning, a pair of fighter jets deployed at the Lask base took to the air in Poland, followed by another pair from the Krzesiny base after six in the morning.
"We would like to inform you that there is intense activity of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation related to strikes on the territory of Ukraine. To ensure the safety of Polish airspace, two pairs of F-16 fighters and an allied refuelling aircraft were deployed. At around 5.45 a.m., the American pair stationed at the base in Lask took off, and at around 6.15 a.m. the Polish pair from the base in Krzesiny," the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command said.
The Polish command warned that the activities of Polish and allied aircraft in the airspace could lead to an increase in noise levels, especially in the eastern part of the country.
On the night of 2 January, Russia launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine. The air raid lasted almost 6 hours in total, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration. First, the Russian army launched about a dozen Shahed barrage munitions at the Ukrainian capital.
Following them, more than a dozen Tu-95MS strategic bombers launched X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles in groups and waves.
At the same time as the missiles were approaching Kyiv, more than ten Mig-31K aircraft launched X-47M2 Kinzhal air-to-air missiles at the capital.
The air defence forces and means hit all Shahed UAVs and more than 6 dozen X-101/X-555/X-55 missiles and a dozen X-47M2 Kinzhal missiles (the type and number will be finalised by the Air Force). Unfortunately, as a result of such a massive missile attack, the capital's residential buildings were destroyed and infrastructure damaged. There are victims. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Yesterday, on New Year's Eve, Russia launched a massive attack on Odesa and Lviv with 90 Russian drones. And on 29 December, the Russian occupation army fired about 110 missiles at many Ukrainian cities. This was Russia's most massive missile attack on Ukraine since its full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022.
