Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Ukraine is ready to continue fighting Russia for another two to three years, though the war could drag on for decades, and Western countries are underestimating the threat from the Kremlin.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to The Sunday Times.

In an interview with the publication, the Polish Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine will undoubtedly be able to maintain its independence, but raised the issue of the economic and social consequences of a protracted war.

“President Zelenskyy told me [on Thursday] that he hopes that the war will not last ten years, but that Ukraine is ready to fight for another two or three years,” Tusk said.

He noted that the West faces constant threats from Russia, including sabotage, cyberattacks, and the possibility of hypersonic missiles being launched from Belarus or Kaliningrad.

“The threat is global and universal, above all because of technology,” the Prime Minister stressed. “In Poland, they are ready to destroy the cyberinfrastructure [underpinning] our railways and our hospitals. It could be really painful.”

Moreover, Donald Tusk emphasized that although Russia's economy is facing serious problems and new U.S. sanctions are increasing pressure on the Kremlin, this does not guarantee Moscow's defeat.

“They have one big advantage against the West, and Europe especially: they are ready to fight ... in wartime, this is absolutely the crucial question,” he said. “You have no chance to win if you are not ready to fight or at least to sacrifice something.”

At the same time, Tusk doubts how effective the Trump administration's new approach to Moscow will be.

In his opinion, any agreements with Putin on Ukraine are not worth the ink with which they are signed, and the conflict will continue until fundamental changes take place in Russia.

Finally, the Polish Prime Minister called on the West to take its own security seriously, warning that NATO countries, particularly the UK, can no longer live under the “sweet illusion” that they will be protected in the event of an attack by Moscow.

As The Gaze reported earlier, Russia may become a credible military threat to NATO well before the timeline projected by Western intelligence agencies.
