Power Outages in Moldova Due to Massive Russian Missile Attack on Ukraine
On Monday, 26 August, due to Russia's massive attack on Ukraine's energy facilities, power outages began in the power system of the Ukraine-Moldova interconnector.
This was reported by the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica.
‘Moldelectrica reports interruptions in the Ukraine-Moldova interconnected power system as a result of attacks on critical Ukrainian infrastructure,’ the company said in a statement.
The company assured that the situation is under control and that local generation will be enough to cope with ‘minor interruptions’.
This morning, on 26 August, Russia attacked Ukraine with nearly 100 drones and more than 100 missiles, including ‘calibres’ from warships in the Black Sea and missiles from Tu-95MS bombers, affecting 15 regions of Ukraine. The Russian army targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Following the attack, blackouts were reported in a number of regions. The state-owned enterprise Ukrenergo announced the introduction of emergency power cuts in the country.
