President of Ukraine to Visit Hungary for European Political Community Summit for the First Time Since Russian Invasion
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Hungary today for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale Russian war to participate in the summit of the European Political Community. He announced this in an evening address.
Zelenskyy noted that on Thursday he would be in Budapest for the summit of the European Political Community at the invitation of Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, which holds the EU presidency, and President of the European Council Charles Michel.
‘I thank you for the invitation. We will discuss security challenges in Europe, as well as new opportunities for all partners. There will be a number of meetings, a number of agreements with European leaders,’ he announced.
Most European countries have decided to participate in the European Political Community summit, although there were earlier proposals to boycott the event due to the scandalous foreign policy steps of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not visited Hungary since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022. Bilateral relations between the two countries have been marred by Hungary's inhibition of EU sanctions and military assistance, as well as the Hungarian leadership's close contacts with Russia.
Earlier, Zelenskyy also said that Kyiv and Budapest are working on a ‘bilateral document’ that will address, among other things, security issues and Ukraine's accession to NATO.
