Primary School Teacher From Ivano-Frankivsk Wins Global Teacher Prize Ukraine
On Teacher's Day in Ukraine, the winners of the annual Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2024 were announced. Lesya Pavliuk, a primary school teacher from Lyceum No. 7 in Ivano-Frankivsk, won the award.

The choice in favour of Lesya 's victory was unequivocal - she won the favour of both the expert jury and the national vote held on the Diia.Osvita portal.
Lesya Pavliuk was one of the first teachers in her school to work with an inclusive classroom even before the reform of Ukrainian school education. The teacher also uses innovative methods, gaming technologies and mental arithmetic in her work with children.
In addition to being recognised for her contribution to Ukrainian education, Pavliuk received the main prize of the award - one million hryvnias for her own educational project. She will also represent Ukraine at the Global Teacher Prize.
‘Now, more than ever, we understand how important our work is. Now, more than ever, we feel the support of society, the government, and parents. We do all this for the sake of children. We, teachers, are doing what will happen in the future.
I sincerely believe that our students will make our country Ukraine the country we dream of and the country they dream of in the future,’ the winner shared her emotions after receiving the award.
In the Preschool nomination, the winner was Oksana Masovets, a teacher, who will receive half a million hryvnias to help her fulfil her educational dream.
Yevhen Kravchenko, a teacher from Dnipro, won the Choice by Heart category. The man adapts traditional teaching to teach history to students of the Superheroes School, an educational centre at the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital.
The best teacher was also chosen in the Inclusivity category - it was Vladyslav Akimenko, a history and geography teacher from Kharkiv region.
Larysa Romanyshyn, a teacher of chemistry, physics and biology from Lviv region, was awarded in the additional nomination ‘Chemistry Teacher’. The teacher started her career as a physics engineer, but later moved into the field of education.
Also this year, for the first time in the history of the award, the best STEM teachers were announced as part of a special award. The awarded teachers will receive grants of UAH 200 thousand.
The Global Teacher Prize Ukraine was founded in 2017 by the NGO Osvitoria.
The main Global Teacher Prize in 2023 went to teacher Zef from Pakistan, who opened her own school at the age of 13 after being beaten and humiliated by a teacher in front of her classmates.
