Rolls-Royce and UK Sign Largest-Ever Submarine Reactor Deal
The UK Ministry of Defence and Rolls-Royce have agreed a £9 billion deal for nuclear submarine reactors, the largest ever between them.
This is reported by the BBC.
‘We are delighted to announce the Unity contract, which confirms our commitment to the Royal Navy and the Defence Nuclear Establishment,’ said Steve Carlier, president of Rolls-Royce Submarines.
The eight-year contract, called Unity, is designed to make the design, manufacture and support of reactors more efficient and environmentally friendly.
It is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs in the UK and retain 4,000 other positions.
The government said the deal will streamline previous contracts and incentives and deliver more efficient delivery, resulting in savings of £400 million.
In addition to supporting the current Royal Navy submarine fleet, Unity includes the construction and commissioning of new Dreadnought class submarines and the start of contracts for the new Aukus defence alliance.
As reported by The Gaze, Ukraine and the UK recently signed a historic 100-year partnership agreement to deepen security ties and strengthen the partnership for future generations.
