Romania Also Wants to Participate in EU Peace Talks on War in Ukraine

Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu said that Bucharest wants to participate in peace talks on the war in Ukraine, as it has transferred 25% of its missile defence to Ukraine and has the longest border with a country that is repelling a Russian invasion among EU countries. He said this in an interview with caleaeuropeana.ro.
Hurezeanu believes that Europe is currently undergoing a test of unity and cohesion, and Ukraine should not lose the war.
‘We do not want Ukraine to lose. Ukraine should not lose this war and under no circumstances should Russia win it,’ the diplomat said.
He believes that the White House's approach to a peaceful settlement in Russia's war against Ukraine is a ‘test operation’ of European unity and cohesion. According to Hurezeanu, the United States and Russia ‘may go over the heads of Europeans’, as Donald Trump's administration will consult with Europe, but it will be excluded from the negotiations.
‘We want to participate together with our NATO and EU allies in peace talks, and we also want to be part of Ukraine's reconstruction, because our role in this war, helping Ukraine, was one of the most important,’ Hurezeanu said.
He reminded that Romania not only has the longest border with Ukraine among EU countries, but also helps more than a million Ukrainian refugees, transports 50 to 60 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain through its ports every harvest season, and trains 16 Ukrainian pilots.
‘We have provided Ukraine with one of our Patriot batteries, one of four, 25% of our most advanced missile defence arsenal,’ the top diplomat added.
Hurezeanu said that his country respects pacts and treaties and has had a ‘common destiny’ with the United States since the Romanian Revolution. According to him, the strategic partnership between the two countries was confirmed by US Presidential Special Envoy Keith Kellogg and US congressmen during the Munich Security Conference.
There are now loud statements that the US wants to leave Europeans out of the negotiations on peace in Ukraine. Although Trump's National Security Adviser Mike Volz said that this is not the case and Europe is not excluded from the negotiation process, it is simply the sequence of processes.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also insisted in dozens of statements and interviews in recent days that nothing can be resolved without Ukraine and Europe. And they, along with the United States, must have a common position.
