Romania's Largest Energy Company Targeted by Cyberattack: Critical Systems Unaffected
On Monday, 9 December, Electrica, Romania's largest electricity supplier with operations in 18 counties, reported a cyberattack. It is noted that the company's critical systems were not affected, and any failures are the result of temporary internal infrastructure protection measures.
This is reported by Romania Journal, Ukrinform reports.
‘Teams of specialists are working closely with national cybersecurity authorities to manage and resolve the incident in order to resolve the situation as soon as possible, identify the source of the attack and limit its consequences,’ Electrica said in a statement.
Electrica added that the company's priority is to maintain the continuity of electricity distribution and supply, as well as the protection of personal data.
At the same time, Electrica urged its subscribers to ‘be alert to any suspicious messages received on behalf of the company and avoid providing personal data through unsecured channels’.
As reported earlier, UK Cabinet Secretary Pat McFadden said that Russia and other adversaries of the United Kingdom are trying to use artificial intelligence to intensify cyberattacks on the country's infrastructure.
