Russia Simulates Peace Talks to Avoid International Isolation, Political Scientist Explains

Russia is only pretending to participate in peace talks with Ukraine. The aggressor country's goal is to break out of international isolation and continue the war. To this end, Russia is trying to find new ways and is betting on cooperation with China and North Korea, according to political scientist and co-founder of the National Platform for Stability and Unity, Oleh Saakyan.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the FREEDOM TV channel broadcast.
"US President Donald Trump is persuading Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine only with words and flattery, rather than serious pressure. By stalling for time, Russia has been able to build up its forces for an offensive campaign. Putin is managing to lead Trump by the nose and gain extra time while the momentum of support for Ukraine from its partners has slowed down," the speaker said.
Trump, who promised to stop it in 24 hours, is putting pressure on Ukraine in an attempt to appease Putin.
"At the same time, Trump has never put pressure on Russia or even taken any action that would indicate the seriousness of his intentions. It is clear that the mood of the American public is reaching boiling point, with the majority of voters and Republicans saying that Trump is too soft on Putin. An even greater number say that Trump is not entirely fair when it comes to Ukraine," Saakyan emphasised.
He added that the issue of supporting Ukraine and confronting Russia remains an electoral challenge for Trump.
"Has this changed Trump's position? I remain sceptical about that. But I believe in Trump's political acumen and his desire not to be a lame duck as president.
Trump is convinced that he can change everything on the international stage at any moment. Putin is imitating the negotiation process. This is a carrot that the Russian dictator has dangled in front of Trump and is leading him by it like a donkey. It does not come closer to him, but periodically even moves further away. For Trump, Putin is a trophy in his large collection of agreements with scoundrels," the political scientist concluded.
As The Gaze reported earlier, US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that the US had received a list of conditions for ending the war from Kyiv, but had not yet received one from Moscow.
