In the German state of Bavaria, in the small town of Murnau, a 57-year-old Russian attacked and killed two Ukrainian citizens with a knife in a supermarket car park. German law enforcement officers detained the suspect.

This was reported by the Bavarian police.

The Ukrainian citizens killed in the German city of Murnau were military personnel and were undergoing rehabilitation in Germany, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in a commentary.

The German state will not tolerate crimes against Ukrainians, of whom there are currently a large number in the country. This was stated by German Federal Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit at a briefing on Monday, commenting on the high-profile murder of two Ukrainians at the end of last week, Ukrinform reports.

The spokesman said that the incident is of great concern.

Regarding the motives and circumstances of the crime, Gebestreit called for no conclusions to be drawn until the investigation is completed, which is being conducted by Bavarian law enforcement agencies. The fact is that two Ukrainian citizens were killed by a "Russian-German criminal".

As reported, in German Bavaria, a 57-year-old German resident of Russian origin killed two Ukrainians, aged 36 and 23, with a knife. Later, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry clarified that the victims were soldiers who were undergoing rehabilitation in Germany after being wounded. The suspect, Yuriy Zh., was detained, and an investigating judge issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of double murder. The investigation is underway. No motives for the crime have been reported so far. The prosecutor's office is currently not inclined to say that it may be related to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. In addition, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said that "alcohol could also have played a role" in the case and referred to some witnesses who had allegedly seen the three men together before.

Ukrainian diplomats are keeping the situation under control.
