Russians Strike Feldman Ecopark Near Kharkiv –Volunteer Injured, Animals Killed
On January 1, the Russian army dropped aerial bombs on the Kharkiv region.
The Gaze reports on it according to the BBC.
The strikes hit the Feldman Ecopark zoo in the suburbs of Kharkiv. As a result of the attack, a volunteer was injured, and the predators' winter quarters and bird enclosures were destroyed. This was reported by the founder of the facility, MP Oleksandr Feldman. “A volunteer was injured. But it seems to be minor. She has a cut on her head, she got into the ambulance herself and has already left,” Feldman said.
He noted that lions were injured, but it is currently unclear what happened to the tigers, which were also in the winter enclosure.
As a Kharkiv volunteer who regularly helps the zoo told BBC News Ukraine, they are now trying to sedate the tigers so that they can be examined and moved to an enclosure.
"One tiger ran into a three-story building, another was sitting in a half-open enclosure. He hid in a hut. It's still sitting there. We're waiting for a tranquilizer gun. All of our tranquilizers were in the room that was targeted by the KAB," he said.
Feldman added that the shell hit the aviary where parrots, pheasants, and all the “elite birds” that need warm conditions were wintering.
“The birds are dead—if not all of them, then most of them,” Feldman said.
Later, Ivan Dostov, head of Feldman Ecopark, reported that the tigers had been caught and were being examined by a veterinarian. “The tigers are fine. There are questions about the condition of the lions, but I don't think their lives are in danger. They are also being examined by veterinarians,” he told reporters.
He added that the animals are frightened, but he does not yet know if they have been injured or if they have been injured at all.
The number of birds killed is still unknown. “There are a lot of birds there — ornamental chickens, pheasants, and guinea fowls were in that wing,” Dostov added.
He confirmed that the volunteer who was injured by the Russian airstrike had been examined and her life is not in danger.
