Russia’s Revenge for ‘Spiderweb’ Is Still to Come, U.S. Warms

The United States believes that Russia has not yet fully executed its retaliation for Ukraine’s daring drone strike last weekend, and is instead preparing a comprehensive, multi-pronged military response.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Reuters.
According to U.S. intelligence, the strike, expected within days, will likely include both missile and drone attacks, and could target critical Ukrainian infrastructure and symbolic sites, including government buildings.
One senior U.S. official described the expected response as “asymmetrical,” indicating that Russia’s counterattack will not mirror Ukraine’s tactics but aim for psychological and strategic impact.
Russia has already launched a barrage of missiles and drones at Kyiv on Friday, which Russia claimed were in response to the Ukrainian attacks. However, American officials suggest this may have only been a prelude to a broader operation.
Western diplomats echoed this concern, with one stating that Moscow is preparing a “huge, vicious, and unrelenting” assault.
Another source pointed to likely strikes against Ukrainian intelligence targets, particularly the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), which played a key role in the drone operation.
Defense expert Michael Kofman from the Carnegie Endowment noted that the use of intermediate-range ballistic missiles cannot be ruled out, particularly if Moscow aims to deliver a visible blow to Ukraine’s security institutions or defense industry.
Still, Kofman emphasized that Russia's capacity to dramatically escalate its current campaign may be limited. “They’re already expending significant military resources,” he said. “Their escalation window is narrowing.”
