Ukrainian MFA to Putin: “Stop Whining About Strikes, Agree to Ceasefire and Talks”

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a sharp response to Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s latest complaints over Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, accusing the Kremlin of deliberately distorting the facts and avoiding responsibility for its full-scale aggression, The Gaze reports.
In a statement published on June 5, the MFA reminded Moscow that the United Nations General Assembly, in multiple resolutions during the 11th Emergency Special Session, officially recognized Russia as the aggressor state violating Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. Citing Article 51, Ukraine reaffirmed its inherent right to self-defense, including military strikes on legitimate targets inside Russian territory.
“No territorial limitations are imposed on the exercise of this right to self-defense,” the MFA stressed, underlining that Ukrainian strikes on Russian airfields were lawful and aimed at disrupting further attacks on Ukrainian cities, civilians, and military personnel.
Ukraine emphasized that many of the targeted aircraft were actively preparing another wave of missile and UAV strikes intended to kill civilians. The Ministry firmly rejected any equivalency between Russian and Ukrainian military actions.
“Russia is the aggressor, which has carried out an illegal and unprovoked attack on our state. Ukraine is a country defending itself from the aggression,” the MFA said.
The MFA also revealed that Ukraine had agreed to a full and unconditional ceasefire three months ago, but that Russia continues to reject peace efforts, escalate the war, and make unrealistic demands.
“Putin should stop whining about Ukrainian strikes on his planes and instead agree to at least a 30-day ceasefire, abandon unrealistic ultimatums, stop hiding from a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and begin good-faith negotiations to establish a just and sustainable peace,” the MFA concluded.
