Spain Gives 6 HAWK Air Defence Systems to Ukraine and Joins IT and Maritime Coalitions
Spain is transferring a complete battery of HAWK air defence systems to Ukraine.
The announcement was made by Defence Minister Margarita Robles at a meeting in Ramstein, Germany, in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Spanish Ministry of Defence reports.
Robles announced a significant military aid package that Spain will send to Ukraine ‘in the coming weeks’.
‘In response to President Zelenskyy's request for air defence systems, Minister Robles announced the immediate delivery of a complete HAWK battery, including six launchers, also provided by Spain and already deployed in Poland,’ the communiqué said.
The minister also spoke about the preparation of the next batches of aid and projects launched by the Spanish defence industry in continuation of the security cooperation agreement between Ukraine and Spain, and noted that Spain is stepping up its participation in the EU mission to train the Ukrainian military.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Robles signed Spain's accession to the IT Coalition led by Estonia and Luxembourg and the Maritime Coalition led by Norway and the United Kingdom.
As The Gaze previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the 24th meeting of the Ramstein format in Germany. He thanked the participants for each package of support and stressed that Kyiv needs more weapons to drive Russian troops out of the entire occupied territory of Ukraine.
