Strategic Petrochemical Plant Is on Fire in Russia
The enterprise manufactures raw materials for the Russian army.

In the Russian city of Budyonovsk, Stavropol Krai, a fire broke out at the Stavrolen petrochemical plant, which is part of the Lukoil group of companies.
Local authorities reported an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Stavrolen is one of Russia's largest producers of polyethylene and polypropylene and plays an important role in the country's petrochemical sector. The company produces approximately 340,000 tonnes of ethylene, 319,000 tonnes of polyethylene and 113,000 tonnes of polypropylene annually. In 2021, the company announced the production of its eight millionth tonne of polyethylene since the start of production.
The plant's products are used in the manufacture of pipes, films, cable insulation and paint and varnish materials. Given its characteristics, the company is an important supplier of dual-use raw materials and semi-finished products. These materials are important for fuel supply, field engineering infrastructure, packaging and transportation of goods, as well as for the repair and protection of military equipment.
The plant is located approximately 700 kilometres from the war zone in Ukraine.
