Sweden Donates Nearly $445 Million to Bolster Ukraine’s Defense Capabilities

The Swedish government has approved a major defense support package for Ukraine totaling approximately 4.8 billion Swedish kronor ($445 million), aimed at strengthening Kyiv’s military capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression, The Gaze reports, citing the Government Offices of Sweden.
The donations, part of Sweden’s 19th support package for Ukraine, were approved on May 22 and will be distributed through multilateral defense coalitions and procurement initiatives.
“These payments will make Ukraine’s armed forces and defense industry stronger in their fight against Russia,” said Defense Minister Pål Jonson.
The funds will support several key coalitions under the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), including:
• Mine Action Coalition – 100 million SEK for demining equipment.
• Drone Coalition – 300 million SEK for various unmanned aerial systems.
• Maritime Security Coalition – 50 million SEK for training Ukrainian naval personnel.
• Cyber and Command Systems Coalition – 30 million SEK for IT infrastructure and secure command networks.
Over 1 billion SEK will be allocated to support the “Danish model” — a procurement framework that sources military equipment directly from Ukraine’s defense industry to strengthen its long-term supply security and production capacity.
Sweden will also contribute 418 million SEK toward joint procurement of armored vehicles to enhance Ukraine’s ground combat forces, in collaboration with other Nordic-Baltic nations.
To meet urgent battlefield needs, Sweden will provide 550 million SEK to a Czech-led international initiative for rapid ammunition procurement and 546 million SEK to a similar Estonian initiative.
These efforts contribute to the EU’s target of supplying Ukraine with 2 million artillery shells in 2025.
Finally, over 1 billion SEK will go toward acquiring advanced air defense systems and long-range drones for deep-strike operations via multilateral platforms.
Sweden remains a co-leader of the international F-16 coalition, training Ukrainian pilots and supplying spare parts and logistics support to maintain operational air power.
