Zelenskyy to Propose Arms Purchase from U.S. in High-Stakes Meeting with Trump at G7 Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to raise the prospect of purchasing a new U.S. defense package during a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump on the sidelines of this week’s G7 Summit in Canada.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to European Pravda.
Speaking at a press conference in Vienna on Monday, Zelenskyy confirmed that discussions with Washington on direct military assistance are currently on hold.
However, he emphasized that Ukraine remains willing to invest in its own defense capabilities by acquiring American weaponry.
“We are not currently negotiating with the United States about new aid,” Zelenskyy said. “But one of the key topics I intend to raise with President Trump is the possibility of Ukraine purchasing a new defense package.”
In addition to security cooperation, the Ukrainian leader stressed the strategic importance of preserving the transatlantic alliance between Europe and the United States.
“Both Ukraine and our European partners must work to ensure this alliance does not fracture,” he said. “Only then we can hope for lasting security on the continent. Undermining such a union will not be easy but we must not allow it.”
The White House has confirmed that the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting will take place during the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, where Zelenskyy is attending as a special guest on Tuesday.
This will be the third in-person meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy this year. The two leaders last met privately in April at the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Sen. Richard Blumenthal called on President Donald Trump to urgently press Congress to pass tougher sanctions on Russia, emphasizing the need for swift presidential leadership ahead of the G7 meeting in Canada.
