The European Commission has called on all executive services of the European Union to refrain from launching advertisements on Elon Musk's social network X due to concerns about the spread of misinformation.

This information is reported by Politico, citing a letter from the European Commission.

According to the publication, the warning letter was sent to the heads of all services and director-generals.

Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, Dana Spinant, emphasized that misinformation on X has led them to "recommend to temporarily suspend advertising on this platform until further notice to avoid risks of reputational damage to the Commission."

At the same time, EU services still have the opportunity to use X for communication through profile pages. However, departments are recommended to consider alternative platforms such as LinkedIn or Instagram for placing their paid advertisements.

Earlier, Elon Musk's social network X, faced scrutiny in the European Union, especially after the EU adopted the new Digital Services Act (DSA) aimed at combating misinformation and illegal content on the Internet.

It's worth noting that the Commission, responsible for monitoring compliance with the new legislation, sent an official request to the X company last month, asking them to explain the specific tools the social network uses to prevent the spread of illegal content and misinformation. This inquiry particularly addressed fakes and manipulations related to the HAMAS attack on October 7, 2023.

In September, it was also revealed that the ease of security measures on Elon Musk's social network X directly contributes to the spread of Russian fakes.

The owner of X, Elon Musk, has publicly expressed his support for Russian dictator Putin on several occasions and called for peaceful negotiations with Russia.

Later, the US Senate Armed Services Committee initiated an investigation into potential threats to national security as Elon Musk refused to expand the Starlink satellite system to help Ukraine resist Russian warships.

Previously, The Gaze reported that the European Union has launched an investigation into YouTube and TikTok regarding the safety of underage users, including their "mental and physical health.
