The Guitar of The Legendary Kurt Cobain Sold For Nearly $1.6 Million
In Nashville, USA, Kurt Cobain's guitar from the last tour of the legendary Nirvana frontman was sold at Julien's Auctions for $1,587,500.
This information was reported on the auction house's social media page.
The Fender Mustang is the last guitar Kurt played in Munich in 1994. The instrument was specially designed for left-handed playing.
"This is a really incredible historic guitar. Of course, it's Kurt Cobain. It's his Fender Mustang. It's his SkyStang 1 guitar, his workhorse, his most played guitar of all time," said Executive Director of Julien's Auctions, Martin Nolan.
In addition to the guitar, other items belonging to the legendary Nirvana frontman were also sold at the auction. This included an unopened pack of American Spirit cigarettes, likely becoming the most expensive pack of cigarettes in history as it was purchased for $5,200.
"American Spirit menthols were the preferred brand of the late rock star. This pack was saved by Cobain’s roommate at the Los Angeles rehab clinic where he briefly stayed several days before taking his own life," the lot description stated.
Also several other items were sold at the auction - the jeans Kurt wore in the "Heart-Shaped Box" music video, fetching $412,750. A handwritten musical score of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was sold for $91,000, and Kurt Cobain's yellow argyle cardigan went under the hammer for $13,000.
In May, a smashed guitar belonging to Kurt was sold for $595,900. Cobain smashed it in the early '90s when Nirvana was working on their globally famous album "Nevermind." Although the destroyed instrument was reassembled, it was no longer playable. However, the signatures of the band members miraculously remained on the guitar's body.
Earlier, a large Nirvana promotional poster for the 1991 album "Nevermind," signed by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, was sold.
It's worth noting that The Gaze reported the sale of a rare 1962 Ferrari 330 LM/250 GTO classic model in New York for $51.7 million.
Also, it's worth noting that this car was presented to the public for the first time in 38 years and became the most expensive car ever sold by an Italian manufacturer at an auction. In total, only 39 units of this type of Ferrari were produced worldwide during the period from 1962 to 1964.
