The Path to Europe and Freedom is Not Only Political: Ukraine Celebrates Constitution Day
In his address on the occasion of the Constitution Day, recorded the day before in Lviv on the way from Kyiv to Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine's path to Europe is not only political and geographical, but also ideological, and is taking place in Kharkiv, Kupiansk, Zaporizhzhia, Siversk and other directions.
He stressed that Ukraine's path to Europe began "not yesterday, not a year ago, and not in 1991".
"It was travelled by different generations who fought for an independent, European Ukraine. This path is woven from different destinies, different roads, different people. This path is full of trials, obstacles, pain that we had to experience, and the will that allows us to go forward. And each of us is going through this path today," the President said.
On 28 June, Ukraine celebrates one of the most important national holidays - Constitution Day. It was on this day, 28 June 1996, that the Basic Law was adopted. Constitution Day is the only public holiday enshrined in the Constitution itself. The adoption of the Constitution enshrined the legal foundations of independent Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, was an important step in ensuring human and civil rights and enhanced Ukraine's international standing in the world.
