Slovenian President in Kyiv: Ukraine Must Decide When and Under What Conditions to Negotiate with Russia
Slovenia, like other countries, strives for peace, but Ukraine must decide for itself when and under what conditions it will negotiate with Russia. This was stated by the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, during her visit to Ukraine at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
The President of Slovenia noted that in the war against Russia, Ukraine was defending not only its rights, but also the rights of all nations. She stressed that the Russian Federation "was the country that attacked Ukraine" and that international law should ensure security and order on the planet.
"I am very pleased with the progress at the first Peace Summit in Switzerland. Slovenia participated there. And all of us who participated in this conference understand that we are defending international law and the UN Charter. And we agreed with the President (Zelenskyy - ed.) that there is no politician who does not want peace. We all understand the risks, but Ukraine is the country that has to decide when and under what conditions it will negotiate. And here we are on your side," Pirc Musar said.
She added that the Government of Slovenia has approved an additional €5 million for the humanitarian needs of Ukraine and will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
"Slovenia is a small country, and we cannot provide as much military assistance as large countries can. But we have given a lot and will give more," the Slovenian President assured.
Slovenia is also finalising a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine, which is scheduled to be signed before the NATO summit in Washington.
"The security agreement between Slovenia and Ukraine is already at the final stage. I think that it will be signed before the NATO summit in Washington," President Pirc Musar said.
