Top 10 Mobile Games That Don't Require an Internet Connection
In previous articles, The Gaze has already covered the twelve best smartphone games, but almost all of them required an internet connection. But what if there's no internet available? You might be in the subway, in the mountains, or in Ukraine. Indeed, last autumn showed Ukrainians that after Russian missile attacks on infrastructure, not only does electricity, water, and heating disappear but also mobile communication with the internet.
In such cases, games that don't require an internet connection will come to your rescue. Today, we'll talk about the best of them.
Kingdom Rush
Let's start with one of the favorite games for smartphones, a classic in the Tower Defense genre - Kingdom Rush. In this game, you take on the role of a general in a fantasy kingdom, whose task is to defend the lands from the invasion of all sorts of evil. And there's plenty of evil in the game, including orcs, goblins, ogres, and more. In total, there are over fifty types of enemies.
The gameplay is familiar to those who have played games in this genre before – there's a map, and on it, you build various defensive towers. It sounds simple, but it's a strategic game, so you'll have to think about the order in which to build towers, which ones are best for defense against certain enemies, and so on. Additionally, the game has achievements for progression.
Although the game is quite old, it's still interesting, and the graphics look nice. If you haven't played it, be sure to give it a try.
Candy Crush Saga
One of the most popular games in the "match-three" genre. Perfect for killing time during a boring subway ride. The game stands out with bright graphics, pleasant music, and easy gameplay. As you progress, the levels become more challenging. Some players even complain that the game is too difficult. Well, if you get stuck on a level and can't progress, don't be upset. The company King, which developed Candy Crush Saga, has other games with similar mechanics. Some of them are simpler.
Many gamers also play Farm Heroes Saga, overcoming about 4000 levels. By the way, you can play these games not only on your phone but also on PC and on Facebook, which is quite convenient. Just don't forget to sync your data to avoid losing progress.
Unblock Me
Another project for those who prefer leisurely games. Unblock Me is a classic puzzle where your task is to move blocks in such a way as to clear the path for the red block to the hole in the wall. The early levels are very simple, but the difficulty of the tasks increases later on. It wouldn't be fair to say that some stunning gameplay awaits you, but the puzzles are engaging.
The only annoying thing is the pop-up ads, which have increased lately. However, there aren't as many as in some other free projects. It's not for nothing that 50 million people have downloaded this game.
Eternium
But puzzles alone won't satisfy you; sometimes, you just want to relax and slaughter monsters. Eternium is a classic Action-RPG in the style of the good old Diablo. Among competitors, the game stands out with good graphics and convenient controls, which is rare for mobile games.
Three classes, a decent leveling and crafting system, plenty of locations and hordes of enemies – Eternium has everything we love in the Action-RPG genre. Moreover, the game doesn't require you to buy a top-of-the-line smartphone, for which the developers deserve special thanks.
Shadow Slayer: The Dark Impact
A very fun game for anime and 2D slasher fans. Darkness has descended on the game world, and only you can challenge the evil. Yes, the plot is not particularly original, but who cares about that in such games? Cute graphics, a variety of enemies, a gloomy and atmospheric world of gothic fantasy with a corresponding soundtrack, and good hack & slash combat – what else do we need from a game in this genre?
Shadow Fight 2
And here's another game with the word "Shadow" in its title. Also in 2D. However, this is not a slasher but a fighting game where you play as a character named Shadow. The hero opened some Gates of Shadows and, not only did he release evil into the world, but he also lost his body, transforming into... a shadow. Now your task is to deal with the unleashed forces of evil, and for this, you'll have to visit six provinces and fight six bosses. The game offers a wide range of moves and weapons. Overall, if you like fighting games, be sure to give it a try.
Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities
If we're talking about evil and a gloomy atmosphere, we can't forget about this representative of the Survival Horror genre. This is simply an exemplary horror game with an excellent plot and suspense. We will play as a woman named Rose, who comes to her senses with a gunshot wound and discovers that she remembers nothing except that she must find a certain girl. Why? You'll find out yourself. Dark locations, suddenly appearing enemies, oppressive music and sound design, constant lack of ammo, and limited saves. In short, everything we love. In our opinion, the game has only two downsides - it's a paid game and not very long. However, it's worth the money.
Into the Dead 2
If we're already talking about all sorts of horrors, why not mention zombies? Into the Dead 2 is a sequel to a fairly well-known zombie shooter where we have to destroy hordes of zombies in the post-apocalyptic world. In the second part, a plot appeared, developers significantly improved the graphics, diversified locations, and even added a cute canine companion to the game. As a bonus, there's also a quite decent soundtrack from the PikPok band - tough blues and rock ballads with female vocals can easily find a place in your media player during walks in a gloomy autumn park. So, if you love shooters and good music, don't pass by.
Real Racing 3
If you like driving cars and are a fan of racing, this game is for you. Whatever you say, but Electronic Arts knows how to create excellent sports simulators. In the game, you have access to over two hundred cars, dozens of tracks, and various well-known global events, including Formula 1 Grand Prix. The only drawback of this game is its resource intensity. It won't run on very weak smartphones. And you need quite a bit of space for it – at least 2.5 GB. But it's not surprising; the game is very good.
Frozen City
And we want to finish our top with an unusual city-building simulator. Its uniqueness lies in the post-apocalyptic setting where humanity almost perished due to a sudden cooling. So, you'll not only have to build a city but also ensure the survival of its population. Recalling the past winter in Ukraine, with constant power outages and heating disappearing, it seems like this was some kind of prophetic game. Fortunately, in the real world, the past winter turned out to be unusually warm, but in the world of Frozen City, everything is different. So if you like city-building simulators, be sure to try it.
