Top EU Diplomats Praise Merz’s Willingness to Supply Taurus Missiles to Ukraine

European officials have responded positively to the statement by future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that he may send long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to dpa.
Answering a question about the possibility of Germany sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said: ‘Of course, each member state gives what it can give. But I think the message is very clear: we need to do more to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself and that civilians do not die.’
Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp said that it is very important that Germany provides Ukraine with Taurus missiles. ‘I think it would be a very important signal of where Europe stands in this situation,’ he said.
His Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski called Merz's proposal ‘very good’.
The publication notes that among other topics, EU foreign ministers are discussing an initiative to provide Ukraine with additional artillery ammunition.
As The Gaze reported earlier, the leader of the German Conservatives and future Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Germany is ready to send Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has always rejected the idea of sending Taurus to Ukraine. Merz, as the leader of the opposition, did not agree with this position.
Today, the EU Foreign Affairs Council is taking place in Luxembourg, with the situation in Ukraine as the first issue on the agenda.
