Anonymous Donor Gives €4 Million to Czech Initiative Supporting Ukraine
A Czech grassroots initiative supporting Ukraine has received an anonymous donation exceeding €4 million, marking one of the largest single private contributions to Ukrainian defense efforts.
The Gaze reports this, referring to the initiative’s post on social media.
The initiative, A Gift for Putin, said an unidentified donor transferred 100 million Czech crowns (approximately €4.1 million). The contribution was publicly confirmed on December 14, with organizers outlining their spending plans the following day via their official account.
According to the initiative, the funds have been divided into 26 procurement items and will be used primarily to purchase a wide range of military equipment for Ukraine. These include various types of drones, plastic explosives, frontline gear for combat units, and shotguns.
“We want these resources to be deployed as quickly as possible so they can begin making an impact immediately,” the initiative said, stressing the urgency of rapid procurement amid ongoing hostilities.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, A Gift for Putin has become one of the most prominent civilian-led fundraising efforts in Central Europe, channeling private donations directly into military and logistical support for Kyiv.
The latest donation comes amid a period of heightened public engagement with the initiative. During the summer, the Darek pro Putina (“A Gift for Putin”) also delivered a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter to Ukraine, following a fundraising campaign launched in November 2023. In addition, the initiative previously financed the acquisition of a modernized T-72 tank worth 30 million crowns, which was ceremonially named Tomáš after the first president of Czechoslovakia.
As The Gaze previously reported, the initiative reached its initial target of 12.5 million Czech crowns – enough for one missile – in less than 48 hours.
