UK Prime Minister Starmer to Visit Ukraine to Discuss Deployment of Post-War Peacekeeping Forces
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will soon visit Ukraine to discuss the possibility of deploying an international peacekeeping force after the end of the Russian war, Bloomberg writes, citing its own source. The exact date of the visit has not yet been announced.
This will be Starmer's first visit to Ukraine as head of the British government. Previously, he visited Ukraine in February 2023 as the leader of the Labour Party.
As The Gaze reported the day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a commentary to journalists following the 25th Ramstein meeting that he was preparing to meet with Starmer. One of the key issues will be the initiative to deploy an international peacekeeping mission to Ukraine, which could become part of future security guarantees for Kyiv. According to Zelenskyy, the deployment of a contingent of partners is one of the best tools to force Russia to peace. However, the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine will not replace the path to NATO.
In general, the initiative to deploy international peacekeeping forces to Ukraine was first voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron, and the UK welcomed it.
Europe is also preparing for the US presidency of Donald Trump, who has promised to help end the war in Ukraine. In recent weeks, European leaders have discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine for a peacekeeping mission.
