UK Suspends Support to Georgian Government Over Violence Against Demonstrators
The British government on Monday condemned the ‘shocking scenes of violence’ against pro-democracy demonstrators in Georgia, announcing that it was suspending ‘all support programmes’ for the Georgian government.
This was stated in an official statement by the UK government.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy called the ‘shocking scenes of violence against protesters and journalists by the Georgian authorities’ unacceptable and undermining Georgia's international standing.
‘In light of these events, the UK will immediately suspend all programme support to the Georgian government, limit defence cooperation and restrict engagement with the Georgian Dream government until this departure from European democratic norms and freedoms is halted,’ he added.

The British Foreign Secretary assured that London would continue to support the people of Georgia in their right to choose the future of their country.
Protests have been going on in Georgia for almost two weeks following the Georgian authorities' decision to pause negotiations on joining the European Union by the end of 2028. Law enforcement officers have resorted to dispersing protesters several times.
