Ukraine Attracted $100 Million for the Export of Grain
Ukraine has secured $100 million for the export of Ukrainian grain during the second international summit "Grain from Ukraine" held in Kyiv on November 25.
As reported by website of Ukrainian President, the event aimed to strengthen Ukraine's role as a guarantor of food security, consolidate efforts to ensure global food security, and develop alternative logistic routes for agricultural exports from the country.
Opening the summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted that on the eve of the Holodomor Memorial Day, Russia launched over 70 explosive UAVs "Shahed" over Ukrainian territory.
"On this day of remembrance, such a terrorist attack signifies that Putin takes pride in following the greatest killers of the 20th century. If he could organize another Holodomor for Ukraine, he would do it," said the president.
According to Zelensky, Russia will continue to exploit food shortages and turn hunger into a weapon. He reminded that on the first day of the full-scale war, the Russian fleet blocked Ukrainian seaports and food exports critical to the world.
"Tens of countries and hundreds of millions of people across a vast expanse from West Africa to East Asia depend on the stability of the food market," he emphasized.
Zelensky further stressed that the summit is another testament to Ukraine not losing its strength and freedom and being able to defend a global understanding that terrorism must be defeated.
During the post-summit press conference, Lithuania's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced that Lithuania would finance the grain initiative with €2 million by the end of the year and increase the transit capabilities of Baltic ports for exports.
Additionally, Swiss President Alain Berset emphasized that Switzerland would contribute around €3.1 million to the "Grain from Ukraine" initiative.
Meanwhile, the official page of the Prime Minister of Sweden reported that the country is allocating €8.7 million for food security.
In November 2022, on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, Ukraine launched the international initiative "Grain from Ukraine." Its goal was to send 60 vessels with food to the poorest countries in Africa by the summer of 2023 to prevent a global food crisis. Within a year, $180 million was successfully raised.
As reported by The Gaze, on the occasion of the Holodomor Memorial Day, Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that in the 1930s, the world couldn't fully see the truth. Today, amid the war with Russia, there are only those who choose not to notice. The president thanked everyone restoring historical truth and justice, calling things by their names and not allowing those guilty of crimes to hide behind falsehoods of alleged innocence.
