German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul believes that Ukraine can make territorial concessions only if it has reliable security guarantees from its allies. DW reports that the foreign minister stressed the importance of US guarantees in this matter.

“This means a commitment and a genuine willingness on the part of those who make promises to support Ukraine if it is attacked again by Russia,” he said, adding that the issue of guarantees will be discussed in more detail when the parties agree on a ceasefire and it becomes clear that Russia is ready for peace. “We have not seen this yet.”
