Ukraine Moves to Recover $6.9 Billion from Gazprom, Zelenskyy Says

Ukraine is preparing concrete enforcement steps to collect $6.9 billion from Russian energy giant Gazprom, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced following a briefing with Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretskyi, The Gaze reports.
The total stems from multiple rulings by international arbitration courts in Ukraine’s favor. Zelenskyy underscored that these are “fair decisions that demonstrate Gazprom’s and Russia’s responsibility and reinforce the power of international law.”
The President confirmed that Ukrainian ambassadors will receive specific instructions on enforcing these awards at a diplomatic summit on July 21.
The move follows a string of recent legal defeats for Gazprom. In February 2025, the Russian company lost a case in the International Chamber of Commerce’s Arbitration Court to Czech utility CEZ. Then in June, Naftogaz won an arbitration case that obliges Gazprom to pay $1.37 billion to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also discussed with Koretskyi the country’s preparation for the upcoming heating season, as well as ongoing agreements with European partners and international financial institutions to boost Ukraine’s energy resilience.
