Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has announced that it will dedicate one-third of its defense budget to technological advancements in weaponry.

The Gaze reports on this with reference to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

Modern defense procurement is not solely about fulfilling the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; it also serves as a crucial catalyst for the growth of the Ukrainian tech sector, particularly in fields such as drones, electronic warfare, and missile technology,” Hlib Kanevskyi, the director of the ministry's procurement policy department, stated.

During a recent meeting, participants emphasized the importance of private enterprises in defense procurement and discussed strategies to enhance the current system – focusing on transparency, increased competition, and expedited processes.

One major initiative for 2025 involves standardizing technical specifications for drones. This step will help unify evaluation criteria, simplify procurement, and encourage collaboration with reliable suppliers.

In parallel, Ukraine is moving forward with the implementation of a military-grade SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing) system, in collaboration with the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Already adopted by 28 NATO countries, SAP will be used to manage Ukraine’s defense resources, bringing modernization to long-standing manual systems.

An international team, including German and Ukrainian SAP specialists, as well as representatives from international partners, will oversee the implementation. The project is funded by the governments of Germany and the United States, with additional consulting support from military experts from Canada, the U.S., the Netherlands, Germany, and Poland.

By June, the Ministry plans to deliver transformation roadmaps covering defense resource management until 2027. These will focus on key areas such as personnel management, financial oversight, lifecycle management of weapons systems, and logistics.
