Ukraine’s Intelligence Identifies 68 New Foreign Components in Russian Missiles and Drones
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) has uncovered 68 additional foreign-made components found in Russian missiles and drones used to attack Ukraine.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on social media.
The findings were also published in the “Components in Weapons” section of the War&Sanctions portal, a database aimed at helping global authorities trace and restrict the flow of Western and Asian technologies into Russian arms production.
According to the latest HUR update, the newly identified parts were discovered in several types of advanced Russian and allied weaponry, including the 9M727 “Iskander-K” cruise missile, the Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” air-launched ballistic missile, North Korea’s KN-23 and KN-24 short-range ballistic missiles, and the Iranian-designed “Geran-2” (Shahed-136) attack drone.
Intelligence officials said these systems were used in the massive combined air assault on October 22, which targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and civilian areas.
“Despite Moscow’s claims of successful import substitution, Russian missiles and drones still depend on chips and electronics manufactured in the United States, China, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries,” the agency said in a statement.
HUR added that two of the six weapon types used in the October 22 attack reached Russia through assistance from its strategic partners, Iran and North Korea, underscoring the global dimensions of the threat.
The agency warned that the supply of such technologies poses security risks far beyond Europe, extending to the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East, and called for a comprehensive overhaul of international export control and monitoring mechanisms.
The War&Sanctions database currently contains information on about 5,200 components found across 179 weapon systems, serving as a tool for governments and companies seeking to curb Russia’s access to critical technologies.
As The Gaze previously reported, the Russian Iskander cruise missile that hit the Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv contained dozens of foreign-made components, including parts from the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
