Ukrenergo Becomes a Full-Fledged Member of the European Electricity Operators Network

The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) announced today, December 14, the granting of full membership to the Ukrainian operator Ukrenergo starting from next year. This information is detailed in the ENTSO-E press release.
The Ukrainian Transmission System Operator (TSO) will become the 40th member of the association from January 1, 2024, following approval by the ENTSO-E Assembly today. Ukrenergo has been an observer member of the association since April 2022.
ENTSO-E and Ukrenergo have been working together since 2017 to achieve this integration. A significant milestone was reached on March 16, 2022, with the emergency synchronization of Ukraine and Moldova with the Continental European power system. Since then, Ukrenergo has consistently demonstrated its ability to operate and maintain the stability of Ukraine's electricity transmission system in challenging conditions.
In November 2023, ENTSO-E announced the successful completion of the synchronization project with Ukraine after Ukrenergo fulfilled key technical requirements necessary for the continuous connection between the Continental European and Ukrainian power systems.
"On behalf of the ENTSO-E General Assembly, I would like to congratulate Ukrenergo on joining ENTSO-E as a member. This achievement marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another. The first journey was marked by the emergency synchronization on March 16, 2022, the signing of the Observer Membership Agreement in April 2022, and the completion of the synchronization project on November 28, 2023. Now we embark on a new journey where Ukrenergo takes its rightful place among European TSOs. Together, we will be stronger in advancing a resilient, stable, and integrated European power grid," said ENTSO-E President Zbynek Boldis.
In turn, the CEO of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, termed this as a historic step and thanked European partners for their trust, enhancing energy security, and stabilizing the Ukrainian power system.
Ukrenergo is the electricity transmission system operator in Ukraine, responsible for the operational and technological management of the unified energy system of Ukraine and the transmission of electricity through high-voltage power grids from generation to distribution networks. Ukrenergo provides the technical capability for the export and import of electricity with neighbouring countries.
ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, is an association of European Transmission System Operators (TSOs). Its 40 TSO members, representing 36 countries, are responsible for the safe and coordinated operation of the European electricity system, the largest interconnected electrical network in the world.
