US Gives Ukraine $425 Million Military Aid Package
US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and announced a new military aid package worth $425 million. This was reported by the White House.
The new US military aid package includes additional air defence equipment, air-to-ground munitions, armoured vehicles, and ‘critical ammunition to meet Ukraine's urgent needs’.
In addition, the United States wants to provide Ukraine with additional weapons in the ‘coming months’, including ‘hundreds of interceptors’ for air defence systems, ‘dozens’ of tactical air defence systems, additional artillery systems, ‘significant amounts of ammunition, hundreds of armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of additional armoured vehicles’.
It is also noted that Zelenskyy informed Biden of a ‘plan to achieve victory over Russia’, and the two leaders instructed their teams to continue consultations on further steps.
The Ukrainian president, in turn, thanked Biden, both parties in Congress and the American people for the announced defence package.
He added that in a conversation with the US president, he proposed ‘to consider the possibility of developing joint weapons production’ and discussed the importance of additional training for the Ukrainian military.
