Zelenskyy Meets with Norwegian Defense Minister to Deepen Strategic Cooperation

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Norwegian Minister of Defense Tore Onshuus Sandvik during his first official visit to Ukraine since his appointment in February.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the Office of the President of Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy expressed sincere gratitude for Norway’s robust military assistance, which has been increased to $7 billion in 2025.
“The effective use of these funds in strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself remains our top priority,” the President emphasized.
One of the central topics of the discussion was the enhancement of Ukraine’s defense industrial base, particularly the expansion of domestic production of long-range strike capabilities.
President Zelenskyy noted that this initiative had been positively received by the Norwegian Prime Minister and is expected to be developed further through detailed bilateral dialogue.
The leaders explored avenues for joint investments in Ukraine’s defense sector, including in the manufacturing of drones and long-range missiles.
Discussions also focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems and combat aviation.
President Zelenskyy thanked Norway for its contribution of F-16 fighter jets and emphasized the importance of continued deliveries of NASAMS systems and accompanying missiles, which are critical for safeguarding Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure from Russian aerial attacks.
In the field of energy security, President Zelenskyy conveyed appreciation for Norway’s support during the winter season, including financial contributions toward the purchase of imported gas.
Minister Sandvik reaffirmed Norway’s long-term commitment to Ukraine, highlighting the importance of joint capacity-building and technological cooperation between the two nations.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Norway has agreed to support Ukraine in covering a potential €1 billion gas deficit this winter and will also allocate additional funding to support domestic drone production.
