Zelenskyy summarized talks with Trump
On Monday, following talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian head of state issued a summary statement outlining the key points agreed upon during the discussion, The Gaze reports, referring to his post on Telegram.
1. Security Guarantees
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that during the meeting with President Trump, strong security guarantees for Ukraine were confirmed.
“He confirmed them and stated that they will be voted on in the United States Congress. This is a very strong agreement,” he wrote.
The guarantees currently cover a 15-year period with the possibility of extension, but Ukraine seeks to discuss longer terms — 30–50 years.
“I told him that our war has been ongoing for more than a decade, so we would very much like the guarantees to be for a longer period,” the president emphasized, adding that Trump expressed a willingness to consider this proposal further.
2. Economic Support and Recovery
Zelenskyy noted that he discussed with Trump a package of economic support for Ukraine after the war, including special conditions for the development of Ukrainian business and preparation of a free trade agreement with the United States. Trump also confirmed this.
The president also stated that Ukraine expects to receive frozen Russian assets and reparations. The first $100 billion will be delivered in installments over two years. These funds will be used for state recovery and strengthening defense capabilities if the war continues.
“If there is no war, we will use this money for the restoration of our country. If we need to defend ourselves, we will have funds to purchase this protection,” Zelenskyy added.
3. Withdrawal of Ukrainian Troops from Donbas
Territorial issues, along with the question of control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, are among the most difficult to resolve within the 20-point plan.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia has always wanted to claim Donbas as its own, or even the entire territory of Ukraine. “But we have our own land, our territorial integrity, our state and our interests. We will act in accordance with Ukraine’s interests,” the president stressed.
4. Next Steps of Peace Negotiations
The president stated that a series of meetings is planned at the level of national security advisors from Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe, followed by meetings at the leaders’ level within the “Coalition of the Willing.”
Zelenskyy began discussions about the upcoming meeting with European leaders immediately after his meeting with President Trump.
“I have already connected with President Macron and several other partners and will continue these consultations,” he added.
The goal of these consultations is to agree on documents, prepare for further negotiations with Russia, and strengthen international support for Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, in response to journalists’ questions, Zelenskyy stated that the presence of international troops on Ukrainian territory is an important element of effective security guarantees. He emphasized that an international military contingent would not replace the security mechanisms already proposed by partners, but would significantly strengthen them.
