Zuckerberg Overtakes Bezos to Become the World’s Second-Richest Person for the First Time
The Meta CEO's net worth is now $206 billion, which is his highest ever figure. For the first time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has become the second-richest person in the world, overtaking Jeff Bezos. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for 2024, Zuckerberg's fortune exceeded Bezos' $205.1 billion by $1.1 billion. Zuckerberg is now about $50 billion behind Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Meta shares rose 23% after reporting better-than-expected sales in the second quarter. The advertising also contributed to the push for the type of large language models that use AI chatbots. Therefore, Meta shares closed on Thursday at an all-time high of $582.77.
Meta has also spent heavily on data centres and computing power as Zuckerberg tries to gain a leading position in the AI industry race.
The company has also moved forward with other long-term projects, including the Orion augmented reality glasses that it unveiled last month.
Mark Zuckerberg, who owns a 13% stake in the Menlo Park, California-based company, has made $78 billion this year, the most of any of the world's 500 richest people tracked by the Bloomberg index.
Mark Zuckerberg, the 40-year-old co-founder and CEO of Meta, gained four positions on the wealth index this year.
