ABBA Protests to Trump over Use of Band's Music in Election Campaign
The Swedish music group ABBA and Universal Music have demanded that US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stop using the group's music during his election campaign.
This is reported by Svenska Dagbladet newspaper with reference to a statement from Universal Music.
‘Together with the members of ABBA, we learned about the release of videos of ABBA's music being played at Trump's events and demanded that it be stopped and removed immediately,’ the company said in a statement.
They added that they had not received any requests from the Trump team to use the music, nor had they issued any permissions for this.
According to Svenska Dagbladet, several ABBA hits were played at Trump's election rally in Minnesota in July. The song The Winner Takes It All was played over the loudspeakers, and later videos with Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were shown for Money, Money, Money and Dancing Queen.
ABBA is not the first band to ban Trump from using their music. According to Billboard, Beyoncé demanded that the presidential candidate remove a video featuring her song Freedom after the track became the main campaign song of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Trump has also been banned from using songs by Adele, Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and others.
