US President Donald Trump said the US side had a ‘very good and productive discussions’ with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 13 March. France 24 reports this with reference to his post on TruthSocial.

Trump said that there is now a ‘very good chance that this terrible, bloody war can finally end.’

‘Yesterday, we had a very good and productive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and there is a very good chance that this terrible, bloody war can finally end,’ he said.

At the same time, he noted that ‘thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are now completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position,’ likely referring to recent events in the Kursk region of Russia.

‘I strongly asked President Putin to spare their lives. It would have been a horrific massacre, not seen since the Second World War. God bless them all!!!’ he wrote.

At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied the information that Ukrainian units were allegedly surrounded in the Kursk region. ‘Reports about the enemy's alleged ‘encirclement’ of Ukrainian units in the Kursk region are untrue and are created by Russians for political purposes and to put pressure on Ukraine and partners,’ the General Staff wrote on Facebook.

Trump did not specify whether he also had a personal conversation with the Kremlin leader as part of these talks.

The day before, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow. The Kremlin said that ‘additional signals’ were transmitted to Donald Trump through him.

As The Gaze reported, on 13 March, Putin reacted cautiously to the US proposal for a ceasefire. Without rejecting it outright, he hinted that Moscow could impose its own conditions on any agreement.

The Russian president also said that Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region were surrounded.
